PEN 2.0 alpha
Penrose-tiling editor software
Description
PEN 2.0 alpha - Penrose-tiling editor. Editing Penrose-tiling is unsolvable problem by mechanic tools, because of the five-fold symmetry. The software is a result of long development and it was made for tool, not for end-user program. I used at many artworks, but its main purpose was making the 100 Drawings series.
Features:
- Editing by shape to shape
- Automatic tiling generation
- Colorable shapes
- Zoom functions
- Printing
- Shapes can be replaced by drawings
- Special drawing tools for drawings, which replaces the shapes.
Future features:
- Postscript file export
- Bitmap file export
- Extending the drawing tools
- Help and documentation
The present version is stable, and most of the functions work well. The drawing tools are rather chunky, and printing opties too.
System requirements:
The software runs on IBM compatibles under Windows 9x. You need a mouse, and a connected printer for printing.
Special thanks
The software could not be realized without Sir Roger Penrose, id he does not invent the Penrose-tiling.
Also could not be without the help of Dik Groot, dutch mathematician.
Basic development was on Silicon Graphics System of Atelier Brouillard-Precis. At the and, but not last, Eric Weeks, American crystallographer, whose algorhytm is used for automatic tiling generation.
